Stress and pregnancy don't mix... So make it a priority daily to reduce stress and anxiety during pregnancy! Everyone knows stress is bad for your health and well-being, so it should come as no surprise that stress during pregnancy has negative effects on women and their babies. Studies have linked stress in pregnancy to complications such as premature birth and low birth weight. Later in life, studies link pregnancy stress to asthma, allergies and behavior problems such as ADHD and autism. It appears the second trimester is a particularly sensitive time for stress and its effect on the developing fetus. Most people believe stress is caused by external factors and situations: things like traffic jams, interpersonal conflicts, spilled milk... In reality, it is our thoughts about these things that guide our negative reactions and cause all of our stress. So forget trying to manage and control people and circumstances to get rid of stress! You will find freedom from stress when you take 100% responsibility for your thinking and your reactions to the stress triggers in your life. I have found "The Work" by Byron Katie to be an incredibly effective process for questioning and letting go of my stressful thoughts.
