Nutrition During Pregnancy:

Create Vibrant Health for You and Your Baby

With optimal nutrition during pregnancy, you can experience vibrant health, a low risk pregnancy, easy childbirth recovery and help your baby reach his lifetime health potential.

As the nutrition pioneer, Adelle Davis, wrote:

"We are indeed much more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless help us to be much more than what we are."

Our culture has come to accept a rather mediocre level of health and wellness as the norm, both for ourselves and our children. Regular use of prescription and over-the-counter medication is commonplace for people in all ages and stages of life, even our babies and young children.

Good health seems defined narrowly as the absence of major illness, yet accepts nagging and chronic complaints such as migraines, digestive issues, low-energy, insomnia, obesity, etc. In our children, things like ear infections, allergies, asthma and behavioral diagnoses like ADHD have become the rule rather than the exception.

So what is good health?
In her cookbook "Recipes for Life," Becky Mauldin lists characteristics of a higher standard of health:

  • Sleep well, wake up refreshed
  • No pain anywhere
  • Plenty of energy
  • Clarity of thought, good memory
  • Good posture, good muscle tone and flexibility
  • Bright, alert eyes
  • Well-aligned pure white teeth
  • Cheerful disposition
  • Ideal weight
  • Thick, glossy hair
  • Smooth skin, with a pink glow
  • Good appetite, good digestion

I believe prioritizing optimal nutrition has many benefits, not the least of which is establishing a higher standard of health for the next generation.

Effects of Poor Nutrition During Pregnancy

Your baby is literally built from the nutrients you take in and deliver through the placenta. Depending on the degree of malnutrition and other health factors, poor nutrition can sometimes have devastating effects on mother and baby. Most often, however, the effects are more subtle yet may materialize in various ways throughout a person's life...

Low Risk Pregnancy

Excellent nutrition is one of the five pillars of staying healthy and low risk during pregnancy. The power of good nutrition is well-documented in preventing most pregnancy problems...

Childbirth Recovery

Postpartum recovery is easier and faster when you've practiced good nutrition during pregnancy. Whether you've torn, had an episiotomy or even a C-section, tissues will heal better especially if you include these important nutrients...
